Artist FAQ

A quick guide to how Beauty Studio works for artists – from getting started, to how jobs are sent, to how and when you’re paid. You can always come back to this page if you need a refresher.

Start Here: How Beauty Studio Works

New to the agency? Start with these basics.

Beauty Studio is a national, on-location hair & makeup agency. We connect clients (weddings, events, corporate, production, and VIP clientele) with vetted freelance artists in their area.

  • You work as an independent contractor (1099), not an employee.
  • You choose which jobs you’re open for based on your rate and availability.
  • Our team handles client booking / communication, service payments, and logistics so you can focus on services.

There is no membership fee to join – artists are paid per confirmed booking or project.

You’ll first complete an artist application and basic onboarding. Once you’re approved:

  • Download the Beauty Studio Pro app (Apple or Google Play).
  • Set your service areas and notification preferences in the app (for job opportunities and messaging with our office staff)
  • Upload your portfolio through our website so we can present your work to clients. You'll receive log in credentials
  • Fill out a Freelance Agreement for prompt payment through direct deposit

After these steps are complete, you’ll begin receiving job opportunities when bookings match your location and category.

Yes. Our network is non-exclusive. You remain a freelance artist and are free to:

  • Work with your own clients directly.
  • Take bookings with other agencies and vendors.
  • Accept only the Beauty Studio bookings that fit your schedule.

We simply ask that once you confirm a Beauty Studio booking, you treat it as a firm commitment.

Jobs, Scheduling & The App

How job opportunities are sent and how to respond.

Job opportunities are sent through the Beauty Studio Pro app as push notifications in your subscribed cities and categories.

  • You’ll see date, time, location, services, and rate details. Displayed rates are the flat rate paid to the scheduled artist - so they include all service & travel fees (with the exception of hotel parking fees). Displayed rates do not include artist gratuity (which is a client preference)
  • You can tap the up arrow next to a job post to “vote” or express interest based on your availability and rate.
  • Our office selects the artist(s) that best fit the client and project needs.

If you’re chosen, you’ll receive a private message from our booking agents, as well as an email confirmation with full booking / client details.

Once you’re selected:

  • Our team will send you a private message in the app to let you know that we're booking you on the job.
  • You’ll get a confirmation email with all booking / client details. Please click accept on the email to confirm
  • Any questions, changes, or special instructions will be handled through your app text thread.

Please review all details carefully prior to accepting the appointment. If your availability changes or if you're unable to accept the booking, please message our booking agents immediately so we can find alternate coverage for the client.

If our booking agents message you to book you on a client that you previously voted on (but your availability has changed), simply reply to their message in the app so you're not assigned to the client. This way alternate artist coverage can be found right away.

If you’ve already been accepted and confirmed the job, we treat that as a committed appointment. Please reach out to our team as soon as possible so we can try to find coverage and avoid impacting the client. Please note, cancellations on committed appointments may impact your contract with Beauty Studio and you may be subject to account removal from the Beauty Studio Pro app & website

You can adjust your settings anytime from your app profile:

  • Tap your profile icon and select the pencil/edit icon.
  • Choose which cities you want to receive opportunities in.
  • Enable notifications so you don’t miss time sensitive jobs or messages from our booking agents.

If you move or frequently travel, you can add or remove cities so we can send the right bookings your way.

Portfolio & Booking Rates

How to upload your portfolio and how it connects to your booking rate.

Your portfolio lives on our client facing website and is managed through our portfolio software. To log in:

  • Go to the portfolio login page .
  • Sign in using the username and password provided by the Beauty Studio team.
  • Upload or update your images, videos, reels, and bio as needed.

Need login credentials or having trouble accessing your account? Email us at contact@beautystudioinc.com and we’ll resend your details.

Tip: High resolution images usually upload best from a computer. Uploads from a phone can sometimes compress the image and make it look slightly blurry, so always double check your portfolio once uploaded.

Clients choose artists in their area based heavily on both portfolio quality and the rate they’re willing to pay. A strong, professional portfolio allows us to present you at the highest rate you qualify for in your market.

To help us position you for premium bookings, we recommend including:

  • Professional headshot.
  • Behind the scenes images of you working on clients / on location.
  • Published, print work - including red carpet, celebrity, or recognizable brands (when applicable).
  • High quality reels or video content showcasing your skills.
  • Sharp, well lit photos of your hair and/or makeup work (no heavy filters).

In general, the stronger and more polished your portfolio, the more confidently we can:

  • Recommend you for higher tier rates on our website.
  • Submit you for VIP, corporate, and premium client opportunities.

Higher advertised rates often mean fewer overall bookings (because fewer clients meet those budgets), but they’re geared toward higher value, premium projects. You’re always welcome to change your preferred rate or vote for jobs in the app at any rate

Rates, Invoices & Payment

How pricing works and how you get paid.

Artist rates take into account your experience level, portfolio strength, market, and project type.

  • You’ll share your preferred rates during onboarding.
  • For some corporate / production projects, rates may be structured hourly or by day rate.
  • For weddings / events, rates may be per service or per person.

Our goal is to match clients with artists at fair, competitive rates that reflect the scope of work and budget.

Payments are issued via direct deposit to the bank information you provide during onboarding. The exact payment timeline may vary by project type (standard hair/makeup client vs. on set / corporate client). Project type will be outlined and labeled in your email confirmation:

  • General Hair/Makeup Clients: Service payments are issued 10 business days from service completion
  • On Set / Corporate Clients: Service payments are issued on a NET30. Payments are closed out through contracts our corporate clients arrange and then issued to the contractors. Due to additional processing time outside of our agency's control, please allow up to 30 days
  • You’ll be paid based on the confirmed booking rate set in your email confirmation
  • Any travel or approved add ons will be included (when applicable).

Important Note: For information regarding travel and parking fees, please read "Travel, Parking & On Site Details"

No. Clients pay Beauty Studio directly. Our office issues any necessary invoices to the client.

You are paid by Beauty Studio based on the agreed artist rate for the booking.

Tipping policies may vary by client type:

  • Standard clients may tip artists directly on location upon service completion (when applicable).
  • Corporate and production clients often have tips built into the contracted rate or invoice, however, may request for tips to be added after service completion. If this is the case, our booking agents will message you to update you on the new pay rate.

Travel, Parking & On Site Details

What you’re responsible for bringing and how travel is handled.

Artists are expected to arrive fully prepared with a professional kit and basic equipment:

  • Sanitized hair and/or makeup kit based on services being provided. Makeup kits must carry disposable applicators
  • Basic lighting if needed (ring light or comparable), unless noted otherwise.
  • Professional tools and products. Makeup kits must carry a variety of faux lashes

Any special requirements will be listed in the booking details or communicated by the office in advance.

Travel and parking are handled on a case by case basis, depending on distance and client type:

  • Local jobs typically include standard travel within a set radius / city limits.
  • Extended travel or special locations may include additional travel fees (which will be included in the total flat rate of the booking under "Artist Rate").

Travel / parking details will be clearly outlined in each confirmation. For paid parking reimbursement, please follow the following guidelines:

  • Standard Hair/Makeup Clients: Pay parking/gratuity to artists directly on location (upon service completion)
  • On Set / Corporate Clients: Artists must submit all Parking Receipts via the Beauty Studio Pro app within 48 hours of the completed services for reimbursement.

Your confirmation will list both the service window and your recommended arrival time. Standard guidelines are as follows:

  • Standard Hair/Makeup Clients: Arrive 15 minutes early enough to park, locate the client, and set up.
  • On Set / Corporate Clients: Have a call time of 15-30 minutes prior to scheduled start time. Artists must be already parked and at the location at the call time and not the service time.
  • Be fully ready to begin services at the scheduled start time.

If you’re running into delays (traffic, parking, etc.), notify the office immediately so we can update the client. Please note, if you are habitually or excessively late on call times and/or appointment start times, it may impact your contract with Beauty Studio and you may be subject to account removal from the Beauty Studio Pro app & website

Policies, Expectations & Cancellations

How we protect clients, artists, and the agency.

As a Beauty Studio artist, you are representing Beauty Studio and not yourself. We expect:

  • Professional, respectful communication with clients, staff, and fellow artists.
  • Clear, timely responses in your app thread - especially day of services.
  • Proper hygiene, a clean kit, and an appropriate dress code for each booking.

If any issue arises on site, contact our office so we can support you and the client in real time.

Representing Beauty Studio is a professional choice built on trust, shared standards, and long-term opportunity. All artists are expected to read and accept our values and policies before accepting appointments through the agency.

To protect our clients and our artist network:

  • All bookings and rebookings must go through Beauty Studio. Artists may not rebook clients directly or arrange future appointments outside of the agency.
  • The agency always honors client artist requests and will personally reach out to the requested artist for availability before notifying or assigning any other artist.
  • Artists may not share personal contact information, social media handles, or follow / tag clients or vendors that Beauty Studio has booked and built relationships with.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for soliciting or rebooking agency clients outside of Beauty Studio. If we learn that an artist is bypassing the agency or ignoring these policies, they may be immediately removed from our artist network. These guidelines are in place to protect recurring and future clientele for all artists nationally.

Client cancellations are handled according to Beauty Studio’s client cancellation policy, which includes specific timeframes.

When a client cancels, our office will review:

  • The timing of the cancellation.
  • The type of project (standard hair/makeup vs. on set / corporate).
  • Any applicable guarantees or minimums for the artist.

We’ll then confirm with you what compensation, if any, applies for that particular booking.

After each booking, artists are expected to submit photos of completed work in the Beauty Studio Pro app (when the client gives permission).

These photos help us:

  • Verify that services were completed to Beauty Studio standards.
  • Support you if there is ever a client concern, dispute, or refund request.
  • Maintain consistent quality across our national artist network.

If a client requests a refund and there is no clear proof that services were completed to agency standards (photos, notes, communication), management will review the situation.

Depending on the outcome:

  • If a refund is ruled in the client’s favor, the artist commission may be adjusted or removed.
  • If services were not completed or did not meet agency standards, the artist may not be paid.
  • Artists who receive repeated or serious complaints may be subject to removal from the network in order to maintain agency standards.

When a client declines photos, we recommend making a quick note in your thread so our managers have context if any questions come up later.

No shows and last-minute cancellations from artists are extremely serious because they directly impact our clients and reputation.

Depending on the situation, consequences can include:

  • Removal from a specific booking or project.
  • Flags on your profile, which can limit your access to future opportunities.
  • Permanent removal from the agency network for repeated or severe issues.

If a true emergency occurs, contact our team immediately so we can assist with solutions and communicate with the client. For health and/or auto related emergencies, the agency requires a doctor's note or police report with a time/date stamp (so we can forward this to the client as proof of the legitimacy of the emergency).

Support, Help Tickets & Feedback

Where to go when you need help.

Your primary communication channel is your private message thread in the Beauty Studio Pro app. You can also use the Help Ticket options through our app when needed.

  • Help Tickets: Are there for artists to be directed to management departments for support (general, accounting, technical support and more).
  • Parking Reimbursement: Artists submit receipts through the app for on set / corporate clients.

For urgent day of issues, message in the app and use any emergency contact instructions provided in your booking thread.

We recommend reviewing this page - as it answers the majority of artist questions/concerns. However, if you need additional clarification, please feel free to email us at Email us at contact@beautystudioinc.com and we’ll respond within 48-72 hours.
